Dialogue with Dr. Maves, Chair of the SOPP Steering Committee at AMA, is welcomed and is in keeping with NAPNAP's historical commitment to partnerships that advocate for the well-being of children and families. Our description of SOPP is factual in every respect. We understand the Geomapping project lists selected licensed health care providers based on where providers live, not where they work; further, it is not publicly accessible. Physician supervision and regulation of the nation's workforce is neither necessary, wise, nor affordable. Driving a wedge was hardly the intent of our article. Rather, raising awareness of the JPHC readers is essential, as is ongoing dialogue with all of our colleagues. No two groups of health professionals work together better than nurses and physicians on a daily basis, and thus there is common ground for discussion should SOPP be open to further discussion. We look forward to the call to start what we hope may be a new dialogue.
